Baritone Marimba
The standard baritone consists of 12 or 13 padauk keys on an alder frame with folding or detachable legs. Keys are tuned by hand to the fundamental, first, and second overtone. One pair of mallets and a platform to stand on are included.
OptionsKeysKeys made of different woods are available. Wenge works very well for baritones. FramesFrames are available with folding or detachable legs. Alder is usually used for the frames although other species can be used. Bird's Eye Maple is especially beautiful as end pieces. Keys are strung on rope with felt or foam pads underneath. Frames can be ordered in many different species of wood to emphasize utility and/or beauty. Favorites include alder, ash, wenge and nara. Frame heights can be customized to accomodate player's heights and preferences. Resonator TubesResonator tubes made of PVC pipe are available. They amplify the sound and provide the traditional african buzzing sound. They can be painted black or left white.
